in response to Anti-publicschool...HEY! I went to public school, got great grades and went to a great college - it's all what you make of it. I care INTENSELY for my children but can't afford tuition, so I did exhasutive research and finally found a charter school. It took me many years to get in through their lottery! I agree, public schools are asked to do the impossible. There are charter schools, which can be a great alternative and "free" of charge. If you want a scholarship you have to ask (or beg) the school for one. Also, you may be able to apply for scholarship grants through groups like Elks, Shriners, or even through your employer.
in response to Starshine...You can keep SUnny form getting bored very easily - simple things like paper bags, toilet paper tuobes and carboard boxes keep our kitten busy for hours! His favorite toy right now - and it has been for months - is an old twisted up plastic slinky!! We throw it and he chases it, attacks it, beats it up, then brings it back to us so we can throw it again!
Have you looked into donating plasma for pay? You can both do audience work, where you sit in a studio as the audience of a gameshow or talk show and get paid- usually you get paid at the end of the day. Walk around and pick up bottles and cans and cash them in at recycling centers - people are so messy that you'll be doing th ecommunity a service and making money, too! Contact local churches and see if they can help you, or if they need any day help - maybe you could weed their yard or paint a porch for some money. I am also in Southern California and it is tough, but once you learn the ropes you'll make it! Rosie
Contact your local utilities dept - I think there are local or national programs to help fix up older houses and make them more energy efficient. Hope you get some good news! Rosie
Maybe you could go to a shelter for pregnant women? They will help get you on your feet after your baby arrives. Call 211 for resources in your area. Best wishes, Rosie
Have you gone to the food banks and pantries so you can save that grocery money for other expenses? Can you get food stamps? I run a home-based biz and we are having a start-up special this month, if you're interested email me and I'll send you the link! Rosie
Hi there. I hope I can help. I work with a discount medical plan. Just click on my website near my name and you can sign up for a free discount prescription card - maybe that will help you get your meds. If you want more info on the full benefit plan or on starting your own home-based business with this company just send me a message! Best wishes, Rosie
Have you checked into refinancing your mortgage to take some of the pressure off? Jobs are scarce but they are out there, your hubby may have to do something other than his chosen field or he may have to work second-shift hours but if he keeps applying something will come through eventually. Does he have the skills to register with a temp agency? Maybe you could start ahome-based business together? Just some ideas. Best wishes, Rosie
Hey, Hectorr - sorry to hear about your situation. When you do bring your little boy out in the Florida heat, please be sure to bring an umbrella, a fan (even a paper one!) and water or gatorade for him - and for you!! Do your shopping early in the day, or late in the evening. Maybe you can find a used bicycle for transportation for yourself? Again, be heat smart.
I found these job postings in the Lakeland Craig's List for cabinet makers - I don't know the areas as well but maybe something here will work out for you:

Sounds like you're doing very well considering your situation. have youa sked for help form your church? Can you donate blood or plasma? Some places pay donors. Offer to babysit - teachers make great babysitters!! Have you checked into TANF? Do you get foodstamps? I work with a discount health care company so when you get back on your feet it's a great alternative to benefits. If many of the teachers at the school are also without benefits you might want to work from home with my team. But of course that's not your main priority right now.
I soooo undertsand your frustration! You're probably doing all the basics already - shopping in bulk, at thrift stores and yard sales. There are lots of free events for family fun - just check at the library and schools for flyers, or call yoru chamber of commerce. While you're out at yard sales and thrift shops if you see something that is a great deal you might want to pick it up and resell it for profit online (ebay or Craig's List). Have you done the math to see if it's even worth it for you to go to work? If you are home yiou would have time to cook and bake more from scratch. But soon they will all be in school full-time to your daycare expenses will go down soon, maybe it's better to hang in there - by then you might be able to ask for a raise. If your bills are going ot be late then call the company and ask them to move the due date - that may save you any late fees.
BTW, getting married is not expensive - jst go to the courthouse and get a license. Having a wedding is very different than getting married - you can have a wedding and renew yoru vows any time.
I know it's hard but try to focus on the basics - a roof over your heads, clothes on yoru back (who cares if they don't have a designer's name on them??), food to eat and good health. That's all you need! Well, maybe a car...The rest is things you want, and you can get them in time.
FREE COFFEE tomorrow at Starbucks! From their website:
Join the movement. On April 15th, bring a reusable travel mug into your local Starbucks and get a free brewed coffee.
One person can save trees, together we can save forests.
For the good of the planet, Starbucks is encouraging everyone to switch from paper cups to reusable travel mugs. One day in March thousands of New Yorkers made the switch. Join them now by taking a pledge to do the same.
Call the credit card again and ask them to put you on a hardship plan since your salary has been cut. They may be able to reduce your interest rate even more. You may have to close the account to do it but they will explain the terms before you agree to it.

Residents of CA - check out this site for no-interest emergency loans. They also have a list of national loan programs and also suggest the United Way.
That is crazy! Go around your house and unplug everything that has a clock on it when you're not using it - your coffee maker, radio, stereo -anything that "glows" in the dark. Put yoru tv and cable box on power strips and turn them off when you're not using the items. Eat (and do other things) by candle light. And look into an energy audit - that seems very out of whack!
